If Massachusetts Republican gubernatorial contender Kerry Healey defeats overhyped Democrat opponent Deval Patrick by a very close margin, how many seconds will pass before the Democrats allege vote fraud and disenfranchisement?
It is a near-certainty that the Massachusetts Democrat Party will claim chicanery if Patrick loses a close race. Having demonized Healey to an almost unconscionable degree, the party will not be able to countenance the idea of Healey defeating Patrick fair and square.
Conspiracy theories will abound for months in the event of a Patrick loss, and Healey will, sadly, be demonized as an "illegitimate" governor, the same way George W. Bush was once demonized as an "illegitimate" President. If Healey emerges victorious, liberals will maintain their grudge against her for the entirety of her first term.
Supporters of Kerry Healey must work hard to ensure her election on November 7. We also must work hard to make sure that the left does not succeed in the misinformation campaign they are likely to wage against her administration.
