She Doesn’t Have A Prayer

August 26, 2006

Florida Congresswoman Katherine Harris draws fire for claiming that "If you’re not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin." Surely, she realizes that Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter were (at least officially) Christians, no? More from Captain’s Quarters.

I think that we generally misunderstand what “Christian” is, which is the fault of far too many of us who call ourselves “Christians,” but fail to actually do that which is Christ-like. It isn’t a club, like having a BJ’s card, but only going there when Costco’s doesn’t have the MEGA-bag of Tostitos. It is a lifestyle, reflected in one’s character, and the goal always to be in line with the direction of God, which we get principally from the Bible. I think I understand what Ms. Harris means in saying this, and it’s not for me to say who is really a Christian and who really isn’t (ultimately, only God knows the heart). Buit certainly if one’s actions, including the positions that one espouses conflict either implicitly or expressly with with the Bible, then it would be fair to say that maybe they aren’t following the course that they should be and one can question their understanding of what it means to be “Christ-like.”
