One of my more liberal coworkers pointing this out to me: is it really a good idea to have a uniformed soldier in charge of the CIA? The CIA is a civilian agency. If Hayden is going to stay in the Air Force, as a uniformed general he will still be subject to the chain of command. Would he not have to salute the Joint Chiefs if he sees them in the hall of the Pentagon? And wouldn’t this essentially bring the CIA under the aegis of the Defense Department. I am a huge supporter of Donald Rumsfeld, but I am a bigger fan of proper separations in our government. Hayden needs to resign from the military, I think.
