A British newspaper reports that there’s a (no-longer) secret plan afoot to dramatically reduce US and British troop levels in Iraq by this time next year. Oh boy…I don’t know what to make of this. On the one hand, I agree with President Bush that it’s not a good idea to telegraph to the "insurgents" when they’ll be less of us to fight. On the other hand, somewhere along the line the non-"insurgent" Iraqis will have to take primary responsibility for the defense of their country. Maybe this time next year is a bit too soon, but the US and Britain cannot hold their hands forever.
